Why we celebrate July 4th!

Scott wanted to leave a message. He wrote on this bomb: "Kilgore was here". If you click to enlarge this picture, please note some of the other messages from some of the other crew were not written very tastefully!

It's the 4th of July! Happy Independence Day everyone. Enjoy your day together with your family and friends. Celebrate the freedoms we North Americans have that other countries don't. Remember those who fought for them and continue to fight for freedom.

My heart is heavy today because I think about all of those service members we have lost in the wars past and present and all that should mean to us. Fighting for our freedom is heroic. It's patriotic. It's something we common every day Americans have the luxury to enjoy and live. A solider, a marine, a coastie, a sailor, a guardsman, a reservist and an airmen are a breed like no other. I am greatful to all the service members for everything they have done past and present to protect our freedoms and our way of life.

As you know Scott is serving overseas. While he's not in harm's way, he is doing his part to protect and defend freedom and we are making that sacrifice as a family. I respect his job and his patriotism. It's admirable. The sacrifices he makes to do his job is unlike any other job force out there. We're in this together. We support him. I'm not alone however. There are MANY OTHER families (including members of my own) in this country and in your family that are making the same sacrifices and I think today we should recognize them in some way. If you know of someone who has a familiy member or spouse serving overseas, reach out to them in an email or give them a call especially if you know they are home alone today. Let them know you are thinking about them and are praying for them and acknowledging to them you appreciate their sacrifice. Today especially. We are thankful for our freedom and for our Independence. Reach out to those who have helped make that happen.

That is so very cool. Thanks for sharing with us. And Scott, thanks to you and the entire Armed Services for all that you do.
