Look what MOMMY did today!

In 2001, when I briefly moved back to Canada, I ran in the Run for the Cure in honor of my mom on Mothers' Day. (Those of you back home may remember that I made FRONT PAGE NEWS for the Recorder and Times. I wore a shirt that read: For You Mom. Those of you in the Kilgore fam may remember seeing that featured article on the refrigerator at Mother K's house for the LONGEST time ~ sometimes with a sunflower magnet on top, and sometimes without (if I had yet to catch it). Well, it occurred to me today as I was registering to run, that it would be six years ago this month (and almost to the day) that I last ran in a 5K.

I made it a goal to complete a 5K run this year. I have been training off and on now for about 7 months now and finally got to complete it today. I am also happy to report that I finished it in 27.38 minutes too! (Thanks to a nice cross wind most of the race and a beautiful downhill finish!) For me this is great. I am not trying to be the fastest or trying to kill myself when I run. My two goals were to make sure I ran the entire thing without walking, and to finish under thirty minutes! Both of which I succeeded!!! One other smaller goal I made during the race was to NOT let any female runners pass me. I know that sounds silly but I wanted to focus on the ones in front of me and close the gap as much as I could throughout. If a female was approaching me to pass I would speed up a little!!! It worked...my time improved by 2 1/2 minutes ~ what can I say? LOL

Hopefully if I keep this up, this baby build up will be gone forever!! Until then I am just enjoying these small milestones along the way. Celebrate with me!!!
